And the erotic fiction capital of Australia is … Penrith?
It’s true. Romance book publisher Mills & Boon has revealed the western Sydney suburb was its top buying suburb last year – a total of 11,000 books.
Toowoomba took out second place with 10,457 books – around one in 10 people.
Shepparton, Launceston and Bunbury rounded out the rest of the field, suggesting romantic fiction is most popular in our regional, working-class towns and outer-city suburbs.
Having lived in small towns – where there’s not exactly much to do – that does make sense to me.
But before Penrith’s residents go away bragging about their title, couples therapist Isiah McKimmie says that it doesn’t mean they are the best in the bedroom, according to News.com.au.
Instead, she says people may be buying these books for inspiration or to improve.
Practice makes perfect?
