Back to school: Montessori school and aged care home to share campus in Australian-first
Ever wished you’d paid more attention in class? Residents at the Kalyra Woodcroft aged care home will soon be able to do exactly that after the local council approved plans to open the Southern Montessori middle school campus next door.
Residents and students will take classes together including music, art, history and cooking after the school took out a 20-year lease on the site following a decade-long search for a new home.
The $20 million project is a first here, but other intergenerational programs overseas – where residents share facilities with preschools – have proved successful and Kalyra Communities hopes the same will be true here.
Studies have shown learning new skills and technology can improve both your physical and mental wellbeing as you get older.
A win-win for everyone then.
