Do you care for an elderly parent? This study wants to hear from you
Deakin University is looking for participants for their Families in Later Life Study (FILLS) which is investigating the bonds between children caring for parents and the health issues it can cause for both.
Unpaid care provided to older parents in the community saves the Government around $4.4 billion a year but providing this care can put a strain on carers.
Previous studies have shown good family relationships can actually “inoculate” parents and their children against physical and emotional problems – but the researchers need more evidence to back this up.
If you care for one of your parents and are aged 25 years or older, you may be eligible to participate.
Visit the FILLS website for more information here.
The findings will be used to develop services for carers and their parents to help them cope better – a good reason to sign up.
