Is this the most sexist thing ever? China creates pink, oversized car parks for women
The spaces in China’s Zhejiang province are marked with a stiletto sign and are 3.2 metres wide – or one-and-a-half times the size of ‘normal parking spaces.
Needless to say, many on Chinese social media was quick to slam the spaces.
“This is utterly sexism. Parking depends on driving skills, not gender,” one user wrote.
Some men were also upset they are not allowed to park in the spaces (no surprise there!)
The spaces are also positioned closer to exits and monitoring systems for extra security, especially at night.
It turns out China isn’t the only country to create more women-friendly public spaces. South Korea already has pink parking spots for women, while some countries such as Egypt and Japan have introduced women-only train and subway carriages to reduce sexual harassment.
I don’t have a problem with safety measures for women – but we don’t need wider car spaces.
We’re guessing that was a man’s idea.
