New fee estimators help older Australians plan for aged care costs

With big changes coming to aged care from 1 November 2025, the Government has released two new online tools to help older Australians estimate how much they might pay for care – whether at home or in a residential aged care facility.
Support at Home fee estimator
The Support at Home program will replace the current Home Care Packages and Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP). Fees under this new model will depend on your income and assets, with different contribution rates for full pensioners, part pensioners, and self-funded retirees.
To help, the Government has launched a Support at Home fee estimator on the My Aged Care website.
What does it do?
• How much you might pay for clinical, independence, and everyday services
• What your annual out-of-pocket contributions could be
• Examples based on different financial situations
Real examples from the estimator:
John – Full pensioner
• On a Level 4 care package
• Pays $3,301/year out of $61,440 in services
• Contributes nothing for clinical care
• Small contributions for other services
Narelle – Part pensioner
• On Level 1 package
• Pays $1,260/year
• Contributes 13.5% to independence and everyday services
Harry – Self-funded retiree
• On Level 3 package
• Pays $5,045/year
• Contributes 25% to non-clinical services
• No contribution for clinical care

Residential aged care fee estimator
If you or a loved one is entering residential aged care, there are also upcoming changes to how accommodation and care fees are calculated. To prepare, the Residential Aged Care fee estimator lets you preview potential costs.
What does it do?
You’ll enter details about:
• Income
• Assets
• Household situation
Then, the tool estimates your:
• Accommodation contribution
• Daily fees like the basic daily fee, new Hotelling Supplement Contribution (HSC) and Non-Clinical Care Contribution (NCCC)
• Any ongoing or lifetime fee caps
Note: These are estimates. Final costs will depend on your actual financial assessment at the time of entry and the aged care home you choose.

Why use these tools?
• Take the guesswork out of planning
• Compare different care scenarios
• Prepare financially – or help a loved one do so
These tools are part of the Government’s efforts to make aged care more transparent, fair, and predictable under the new Act. Use them early to stay informed and in control of your care choices.
