Pledge to make a difference in Dementia Action Week
Dementia Australia research shows 81% of people with a loved one living with dementia felt that people in shops, cafés and restaurants treated people living with dementia differently.
There is no need for this behaviour and Dementia Action Week, 18-24 September, has launched a pledge to create a dementia-friendly future.
Communities that take action to become dementia-friendly have:
- less fear and a greater understanding of dementia.
- less stigma and discrimination.
- more support and better systems for people living with dementia to live well in their community for longer.

In 2022, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) estimated that there were 401,300 Australians living with dementia. Nearly two-thirds of Australians with dementia are women.
With an ageing population, it is predicted that the number of Australians living with dementia will more than double by 2058 to 849,300 people (533,800 women and 315,500 men).
