Video Transcript Step 9 - Moving
Making the big move into a nursing home can be highly emotional. It usually means moving from the family home with its memories, and the uncertainty of the future.
We all want to treat the situation with the respect and dignity it deserves. The first step is to plan ahead so it is not a rushed and emotional time.
It’s vital to ask yourself early: do you need to sell the family home to pay for the aged cared home? Will you pay a RAD or DAP? If selling the home, who will pay for the repairs and sale? What if it doesn’t sell, or live up to the value you thought it would? Would you sell anyway, or would the family cover care costs until you get the right offer?
We highly recommend that you undertake the Income and Assets test early to clear the path ahead. Then get financial advice – to protect pensions and make the best care cost structure for you. Then find an agent, prepare the family home for sale, market it, deal with legal matters, and more…all while keeping everyone updated throughout the process.
A lot to do in little time.
Our advice: Invest the time early to understand all the issues laid out here at agedcare101, where aged care is made easy.
