Australia’s oldest living person Ken Weeks marks his 112th birthday

Ken moved into Whiddon’s care as a centenarian and has been part of Whiddon Grafton, 620km north-northeast of the state capital city, Sydney, since 2018.
“Ken became part of the Whiddon family at 105, and today, at 112, he stands as Australia’s oldest living person. It’s an honour to celebrate this moment with him," Whiddon CEO Chris Mamarelis said.
Having lived through five global pandemics and two World Wars, Ken's story highlights the value of personalised and supportive aged care in fostering wellbeing and independence, regardless of age.
In celebration of the 110th birthday of Australia’s oldest known living man, Heinz Australia produced a personalised limited run of baked beans for Ken, a keen baked bean enthusiast.
Ken's 112th birthday celebration was special, surrounded by friends, family (including those who travelled interstate), and his fellow residents.
Born in 1913 at ‘Braylesford’ in Dovedale Street, Grafton, Ken has been a lifelong resident and a cherished member of the Clarence Valley community. The eldest of five children, Ken met and married his wife Jean in Grafton in 1940 and went on to have two sons, Noel and Ian.
The median length of a person staying in residential aged care was 21 months in 2023/2024, according to the Australian Government’s Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
