Support at Home
The Support at Home program allows older people to access a range of support and clinical services to help them stay at home and manage their day-to-day activities. They offer a higher level of care and service than the CHSP.
Packages are available at eight classifications with classification 1 being for lower care needs and 8 being the highest.
Support at Home operates under a ‘rights based’ framework which focuses on the rights of older people to receive care. Once you have been assessed, if you are found to be eligible for Support at Home you will be given an individual support plan. You will be told which class of care you have been assessed as needing, the services you have been approved for, and details of your quarterly budget.
Once you have your support plan you are placed on the Support at Home Priority system, as either urgent, high, medium or standard priority.
When funding becomes available from the Government, you will be notified you have been allocated Support at Home funding and then you can find a Support at Home provider.
I have a question. I was receiving in-home care through a Home Care Package. I’ve heard the system is changing. What will the changes mean for me?

Existing Support at Home customers will receive a Support at Home budget equivalent to your Home Care Package. You will be automatically transferred across to the new system, although you will have to enter into a new service agreement with your provider. Any contributions you were making will not be increased. The process of being transferred across to the new framework is called ‘grandfathering’. After 1st July 2025, even if you came into the system under a Home Care Package, if you are reassessed you will be given a Support at Home Service classification under the new system
